Mila González is a student at the University of Arizona, and recently joined the Midwest and Plains Equity Assistance Center as an advisory board member. Mila began engaging in educational racial justice work in 2018 in the Madison Metropolitan School District in Wisconsin. In collaboration with other students she started an affinity group for Students of Color to come together weekly at Shabazz High School to discuss their experiences as Students of Color and how to improve their school for other Students of Color. She also designed a course under the guidance of a Shabazz teacher called “Let’s Talk About Race.” Likewise she often participated in a student leadership team that met regularly with the superintendent to discuss issues of diversity within the school district. Mila now joins the ranks of national education leaders working to advance equity and inclusive education for historically marginalized students through her work with the MAP Center. She is excited to learn and contribute to the MAP Center through her role as an advisor.
