This edition of the Equity Dispatch states that opportunities to access relevant information, critically assess “the word” and “the world”, and produce knowledge, are all vital to students’ growth as participants in democratic society. As we continue to assess the adequacy and equality of access, retaining an understanding that relevance, validity, and literacy are culturally bound notions will serve us well as we seek to expand opportunities and participation. In schools, moving beyond information retention to seeking, assessing, and producing will serve our students best as they strive to be and become active participants in society.
