This edition of the Equity Dispatch asserts that culturally responsive education that is grounded in strong awareness of Native American students’ backgrounds and lived experience is an important step toward restoring the severely damaging consequences of early efforts to educate Native American children in an assimilationist manner. Working alongside Native American students, families, and communities to build the kind of educational system that will serve them well – one that will open doors to both the future and the past – is a debt we owe to our Native American students and their ancestors.
