This edition of the Equity Dispatch questions if the goal of Early Childhood Education is to teach children to navigate schooling or to develop critical ways of engaging in the world through learning. Because of the pressure to measure student success and to prepare students for kindergarten, some early education professionals unknowingly default to schooling--the reproduction of state led social structures and regulations--by cultivating and enforcing culturally laden expectations and standardized communication patterns.
