Language has the power to reinforce and perpetuate inequitable practices (Briscoe et al., 2009). Thus, developing an awareness for and use of critical language is imperative to critiquing and challenge existing power structures.

Utilizing the MAP Center’s foundational approach, the purpose of this Equity Tool is to provide guidance on the critical use of language, through surfacing and discussing key aspects of critical language framework.
