South Dakota Department of Education adopted the Oceti Sakowin Essential for Understandings (OSEU) in 2018. This adoption by the state department of education demonstrated the importance of South Dakota citizens to understand the history and the cultural makeup of Indigenous people.

How do we use these understandings to center Indigenous culture? How do we foster students' mathematical identity through the OSEU? In this EquiLearn Virtual Roundtable, we explore how the OSEU can be integrated into any classroom as a starting point to honor student voices, experiences, and identities by centering Indigenous culture in the learning environment.
