About Dr. Jasmine Graham
Dr. Jasmine Graham is an Assistant Professor of Counseling and Counselor Education. Her area of interest includes comprehensive and transformation urban school counseling, school-family-community collaboration, and the notion of Strong Black Womanhood and its broader implications for women's education, communities, and health. Dr. Graham has held a variety of leadership roles in counseling program leadership, development, and accreditation. Prior to her career in academia, Dr. Graham was a practicing mental health counselor specializing in school-based intervention and family development.
About M. Nickie Coomer
M. Nickie Coomer is a doctoral student in the Urban Education Studies Program in the School of Education at IUPUI. She has been a graduate assistant for the Great Lakes and Midwest and Plains Equity Assistance Centers for three years. She was the keynote speaker at the 2017 State Equity Leaders Summit, and has published on the topic of deconstructing summer learning loss, has hosted podcasts related to school equity, and was a featured co-host for a nationally broadcast webinar on moving toward culturally responsive pedagogies. Before beginning the Urban Education Studies doctoral program, she taught special education for nine years while also working as a Resident Counselor at a juvenile justice facility. Her research interests lie at the crossroads of mental health and special education, particularly in the social construction of mental health in K-12 settings.
